The Flexible Spending Account (FSA) program administered by WageWorks allows you to contribute tax free dollars from your wages to a Health Care FSA (HC FSA) to pay for qualified health care expenses and/or a  Dependent Care FSA (DC FSA) for dependent (daycare) expenses.

Employees save money because they are paying for these qualified expenses with pre-tax dollars.

All permanent full-time and part-time employees are eligible to enroll. You do not need to be enrolled in the medical plans to participate in the FSA accounts.

Flexible Spending Account coverage for over-the-counter medications is restricted.  Over the counter drugs may ONLY be reimbursed with FSA funds with a doctor’s prescription. It is important that you read the detailed information on the changes.

Important Notice for HSA Participants ONLY:

Due to IRS requirements, your HSA Account is used for qualifying tax-free medical expenses. The Health FSA, if you elect to participate, will be a limited purpose FSA for dental and vision expenses only.

Image of FSA eligible expenses When you incur a health care expense (medical, dental, vision, qualified over-the-counter expenses), you may either pay it with cash, check or credit card and request reimbursement from WageWorks (Pay Me Back), or you may use the FSA Card, which acts as a debit card, to immediately pay the expense at point of service.

Image of receiptYour FSA contributions and expense payments and reimbursements are never taxed!  This is why the program saves you money.  The card is only applicable for the HC FSA (not DC FSA) and expires when your account balance is zero.  The card is convenient because it pays your expenses up front; however, because of IRS regulations, WageWorks may need to request itemized receipts from time to time to substantiate your expense, so save those receipts!

Frequently Asked Questions…

Should I enroll just because I am eligible?
No. Only employees who will have predictable expenses of at least $260 in the plan year should enroll. It is important to be aware that according to IRS rules, if the amount in the account exceeds actual expenses and claims at the end of the plan year, the excess will not be reimbursed to you.

When do I submit receipts for my expenses?
You may pay for your expense by cash, check, or credit card and submit your receipt for reimbursement. Go to www.wageworks.com link to external file to print a Reimbursement Form.

You may also use your WageWorks debit card to pay for your health care expense. Over 90% of WageWorks debit card payments are autosubstantiated, meaning you do not have to submit a receipt. However, retain your receipts should they be requested by WageWorks to subsequently substantiate an FSA debit card payment.

Finally, you may arrange to have WageWorks pay your provider on a regular basis.

Why would I want to have money deducted from my paycheck at the same time I'm incurring an expense and then submit receipts just to get that money back again?
For only one reason - You save money on your out-of-pocket expenses by paying for them with pre-tax dollars.
