Reduced reclaimed water availability
Changes scheduled to begin April 20, 2012
To alleviate the risk of running out of reclaimed water, action is being taken to reduce daily system demands. Beginning Friday, April 20, at 12:01 a.m., Pinellas County reclaimed water customers will have reclaimed water available two days per week for irrigation in 24-hour intervals beginning at 12:01 a.m.

McMullen Booth Road water main repair complete
The water main leak on McMullen Booth Road has been repaired. Work crews will be backfilling and compacting the excavated area this morning. Paving will begin this afternoon and is expected to be completed by this evening.

Water main leak affecting McMullen Booth traffic
The southbound lanes of County Road 611–East Lake Road/McMullen-Booth Road—are being closed by approximately 5:00 PM from Tampa Road to Curlew Road due to a water main leak.

David E. Scott is appointed executive director of Environment and Infrastructure for Pinellas County
County Administrator Robert S. LaSala announced the selection of David E. Scott as executive director of the Department of Environment and Infrastructure for Pinellas County. Mr. Scott is currently the transportation engineer for the Department of Public Works in Norfolk, Virginia. He has served as the director of Public Works for both the city of Baltimore, Md. and the city of Atlanta, Ga.

The new Recycle Today: 2012 Pinellas County Recycling Directory has just been released. The directory is packed with the latest information about how to recycle in Pinellas County including local options for recycling cans, bottles, paper, yard waste, electronics, chemicals, motor oil, cooking oil and much more. Seasonal restrictions for reclaimed water implemented
The seasonal reclaimed water restrictions for Pinellas County Utilities customers will begin on Saturday, Oct. 1, in accordance with Pinellas County Code 82-3. From Oct. 1 to Nov. 30, irrigation with reclaimed water supplied by Pinellas County is limited to only three days per week, based on the resident’s home address.

Annual water system maintenance program set to begin
The method of water treatment utilized by Pinellas County Utilities and its wholesale customers will be temporarily modified between Aug. 1 and Sept. 12, 2011. This short-term change from chloramine to chlorine disinfection is a routine maintenance measure designed to optimize water quality.

New reclaimed water system re-inspections
Pinellas County Utilities inspectors will soon be conducting re-inspections of all connections to the reclaimed water distribution system. The inspections ensure that there are no cross connections between the drinking water system and any other source of water, including reclaimed water.

Recycling coming to the Gulf Beaches
Millions of residents and visitors to Pinellas County beaches will soon find a convenient way to recycle their cans and bottles with the Gulf Beaches Recycling Program. The convenient containers for recycling aluminum and plastic beverage containers will be located near parking areas so beachgoers can drop items off as they arrive or leave.

Reclaimed water shutdown in south Pinellas
Beginning June 20, 2011 at 12:01 a.m., Pinellas County Utilities will begin isolating the reclaimed water distribution system for a (24) twenty-four hour period to allow available storage capacity to recharge. South county reclaimed customers will not have access to reclaimed water on Monday, June 21.

Reclaimed water conservation needed in South Pinellas
Voluntary reduction requested
To alleviate reclaimed water pressure issues and potential shortages, Pinellas County Utilities is appealing to reclaimed water customers in south Pinellas County to voluntarily limit irrigation immediately. Minimal rainfall and overuse of reclaimed water in the area are stressing the available supply of reclaimed water.

New payment option for Utilities customers
Amscot Financial now provides Pinellas County Utilities customers with a new water bill payment option. Bills can be paid at any Amscot location seven days a week. Customers must bring their bill or bill stub and their cash payments will be posted within one to three business days.

Samples confirm McKay Creek is safe for normal activity
Lab results confirmed that water quality conditions in McKay Creek are within acceptable limits. Water Quality teams are removing warning signs posted in the area of the wastewater spill that occurred on March 15.

Damaged sewer line spills wastewater into McKay Creek
A contractor working on installing a storm drain as part of improvements to a sewer pump station hit a 16-inch sewer line near 1415 Indian Rocks Road, Largo around 1:30 p.m. today. It is estimated that 5,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into McKay Creek before Utilities crews isolated the damaged section of pipe.

Water main break isolated
The section of the potable water main that was damaged this morning has been isolated. After unearthing the area around the broken pipe, it was found to be a 42-inch water main that was hit by a contractor working on US 19, south of Allen’s Creek. Two small businesses in the area are without water but Utilities crews are working to restore water service to the affected customers. Repair work is expected to take several days to complete. Traffic flow on US 19 is not being affected.

Water main break discovered in Clearwater
An 8-inch potable water main ruptured on the west side of US 19, south of Allen’s Creek, near 17956 US 19 N. in Clearwater. Utilities crews are on site and working to isolate the damaged section of pipe. Contractors working in the area discovered a water leak earlier this morning. At this time, only a limited disruption of service is expected. Traffic flow on US 19 is not being affected.

Recycling is elementary for Brooker Creek’s first graders
Jenelle Crim’s first grade class presented the musical play Recycle! today for Brooker Creek Elementary School’s 630 students and will perform an encore tonight for their proud parents. Staff from Pinellas County Utilities provided background information to assist the play’s author.

Water pressure reduced as a preventative measure
Water pressure for all customers of Pinellas County Utilities has been lower than normal since the 48-inch water main break occurred on Dec. 23, 2010. Even after the repair work was completed, the water pressure within the line has been reduced as a precaution to reduce the stress on this section of pipe and minimize the risk of further service interruptions. As this pipe is a major north-south transmission line, a significant portion of residents may see the effects of the reduced water pressure, but pressure will be maintained at sufficient levels to provide for fire protection.

48-inch water main returns to service
The water main break that occurred on December 23, 2010 has been fully repaired. A leak that was detected after the primary repair has also been fixed. The 48-inch main has now been pressurized and is back in service. Two days of bacteriological results were satisfactory, paving the way for activation of the main. Area businesses on temporary water service will be converted back to regular service on Monday.

New water main leak found south of Ulmerton Road
No customers without water
A new leak appeared yesterday afternoon (Jan. 3, 2011) in a section of 48-inch pipe just south of Ulmerton Road. The pipeline is part of the 48-inch water main replacement project currently underway from East Bay Drive to Bryan Dairy Road.
