Pinellas Paws Cause
The Pinellas Paws Cause was recently created to raise awareness about the Animal Welfare Trust Fund, through which many needs of the shelter animals are met through the general donations of the supporters of Pinellas County Animal Services.
Ways you can help our Paws Cause:
- The Pinellas Paws Cause Holiday Event
2012 - TBA
There will be photos with Santa Paws for a $5 donation to the Animal Welfare Trust Fund, a food truck rally, specials on adoption fees and rabies vaccination and a chance to “put your paw in” and reserve a spot for a favorite pet to become part of the Pinellas Paws Cause mural at Animal Services. There is a $100 charge for each pet portrait, with $25 donated to the Trust Fund, which helps provide special needs to shelter pets.
Through the Animal Welfare Trust Fund, our citizens are able to donate directly to the animals under our care. The donations that have so generously been shared are used for the extra medications and direct-care items for our cats and dogs that we might not otherwise be able to provide.
This fund was established in 2006 to provide for the receipt of gifts, grants and awards of money from either public or private donors to be placed in a trust and appropriated for the exclusive use, welfare and benefit of domestic animals within Pinellas County.
More than 20,000 animals are cared for at the shelter and adoption center annually. The Trust Fund makes it possible to care for a larger number of animals and provides special needs such as:
- Comfortable kennels
- Improved ventilation and quarantine/isolation facilities. These features aid in the reduction of disease through a healthier environment for animals up for adoption or lost pets waiting to be reclaimed.
- Medicine
- Special dietary food
- Toys to prevent boredom and sent “home” to provide familiarity during adjustment.
